Why can't I buy Lindens? Everything I try results in 'you didn't specify a positive amount'

I'm trying to buy some lindens.  I get the Buy $ page up, and enter the number I want (3000), and it calculates the US$ amount, and adds the charge.  I accept it with the button.  Then I eneter my apssword.  Then it fails - EVERY TIME.  It says I didn't enter a positive number, but I did!!!"!!

Hi Lab,

I've never heard of this problem before and I've no ready explanation for it. I do know that Second Life web properties don't play well with Internet Explorer. If you're using that, you might try an alternative browser like Chrome or Firefox.
