Question

Say Hi to a newbie - thanks in advance for your help. This appears to be a conflict problem - skip to Events log below if you like.

I subscribed, installed, and launched. I got the window frame only. Froze (program only, not all desktop). Running on VISTA. Checked hardware requirements - should run fine. Checked firewall - SL is listed as exception. Updated video card software. Video card is NVIDIA 8400 GS. Checked card settings against a blog settings for SL. Checked permissions - OK. Tried running as an XP program - didn't help. Installed a different client - same problem. Uninstalled client and then installed Snow. Same problem.

I can submit the program logs to this blog, but I think I see the problem in the Events log, but I don't know what to do about it. Any help would be appreciated. The Events log follows. - Dorian

The Microsoft manifest file is an XML file that helps define the Window's platform's relations to the CRT (the display) and other programs (paricularly the runtime dlls msvcr80.dll, msvcp80.dll, and msvcm80.dll), and is part of the .Net framework. SL has a similar manifest file in its directory. I uninstalled .Net, but got a similar result - SL froze before fully opening the window. Vista doesn't live without .Net, so I had to go back to a restore point. I reinstalled using the release candidate, but did not see the same error, and the program still freezes.

I would like to be part of the SL community, but this is a technical problem that I can't resolve.

Hello Dorian, welcome to Second Life

.. and launched. I got the window frame only. Froze (program only, not all desktop). Running on VISTA.

Please have a look at these issues on pJIRA Will not load login screen (can not see it) & Transparent client window    Is that what you see ?

It could be the Windows Color & Appearance settings, in Control Panel > Preferences. Try changing to Windows Standard or Basic.

If you are still unable to log in, you can submit a Ticket with Support at http://support.secondlife.com/ see Ticket Types

Be sure to use the Special Questions - Basic Account or Guest Login ticket type from the dropdown list when entering the information requested.

Basic account holders and Guests can submit tickets for the following issues:

Account issue: Use these if you're having a problem creating or logging into their account

  • I can't login inworld with my account: Please give as much specific information as you can, including the text from any error messages.

Hope this helps
