Jerky movement even sitting on a vehicle? Thats sounds much that your internet is running not fine (enough) for SL. Can you check with ctrl + shift +1 what is the Packet Loss and Ping Sim? Packet Loss should be 0 or not much above, a few spikes will also no issue. Ping Sim should be below 300ms. Otherwise check your firewall or anti virus software.

There are more tipps about that issue here:http://blog.nalates.net/2011/10/26/troubleshoot-your-sl-connection/

That's usually a sign that you have a wonky Internet connection.  Your bandwidth may be fine, but you have an unacceptably long ping time, which means that signals are taking way too long to travel between your computer and SL's servers.  Your viewer and the servers are out of sync.  You can check by using your Statistics Bar (CTRL + Shift + 1) and looking for the Ping Sim number near the top of the display.  If it's much over 150 msec, you'll start to see jerkiness and rubber banding.  Unfortunately, there's not much you can do about it, because it's a network issue -- largely a function of how far signals have to travel.  SL residents in Australia, for example, like with this problem all the time.
