How can this be? I own a total of 496m2 of land. I thought up to 512m2 was free of charge.

Dear Arduenn Schwartzman,

This is a confirmation that you have paid the following invoiced amounts for your
Second Life Membership Plan.

September 28, 2009      Recurring Mainland Fees (up to 4096 meters): $25
September 28, 2009      Adding 19.0000% VAT (Netherlands) for "Recurring Mainland Fees" charge of $25
September 28, 2009      Account successfully billed: 29.75

Did I miss something?

Hi, yes... you have to change in your account settings the fee rate to pay.

It is not an automated thing and it won't adjust itself alone because it is something that you can set if you decide enlarge your land holdings, or to donate land to a group and decide how much your contributions are.

You should log in your account then on the left column click Land Manager arrow.

Again click Land use fees.

In the next page you will find all the information about your land holdings.

At the bottom there is a flaggable list of fees. These dots will show as flaggable accordingly to your holdings or more fee/sq meters in case you decide to buy more land.

Check if you have flagged the 4096 holding fee and put the flag in the appropriate spot.

Note that if you own more than 512 it is 5$ fee up to 1024 square meters.

In this page you find all the land you directly own and what you donated to groups and committed to pay relative fee.

All the square meters are listed, so if you bought something and forgot it, you can find it  there.

Okay, here's what I found out now: I rent another land, 4096m2, and I paid the rent, L$ 5000, to Mikey Okelly, the landlord. Looks like I'm being charged double, or something. Anyway, this is what it says in my account summary:

Allowed holdings: 4,608 square meters
Current holdings: 496 square meters
Available for purchase: 16 square meters
Peak square meter usage: 4,592 square meters
Total monthly cost: USD 29.75*
Next bill date: Wednesday, 10-28-2009

"Current holdings: 496 m2"

This is what the land use fees says:

Current Fees Estimated Fees
Square meters owned: 496
Square meters donated: 4096
Premium Bonus in Square Meters: 512
512
Paid Tier Level: 4096
4096
Available Square Meters: 512
512
Monthly Cost:* USD 25.00
USD 25.00

"Square meters donated". It's land I rent from a third party landlord, Mikey Okelly, not from the Lindens. But they still still charge me 25 US$ (VAT not included) Why am I charged 25 when I already pay the landlord?

You have donated 4608 in tier to a group you belong to, probably your landowners group. To not be charged for this you need to remove that donation.

If the land you are renting is on an island, there is no reason for you to to donate tier via group and you can safely remove it.

If the land you are renting is on mainland, it doesnt seem fair that you have to pay both tier and rent. But this you should discuss with your landlord.

I hope this helps.

The problem seems to be solved. Somehow, I 'donated' 4096 m2 to the group. It said so in the Group info. I do not recall, however, that I ever typed anything in the group donation form. Yet, I changed it to 0 again. The next thing I had to do was to decrease 'extra land' on the SL website to 0. Now, my monthly Linden-owned land tier is 0 again.

Thanks Biancaluce and Eva!
