Hi there,

it happens sometimes that an avatar remains grey or a cloud. This is called a bake fail, and is easily remedied. Here's a link that will walk you through solutions on how to have your avatar appear again: http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=fs_bake_fail

Usually it helps to simply go to Avatar -> Avatar Health -> Reset default female/male avatar. If that doesn't do the trick, refer to the link I posted for more suggestions :)

When you ask a tech question include information about your computer and viewer. If the viewer will at least show the login screen, get the info from the viewer's Help-About... and paste that into your post with your question. Help->About... provides all the version numbers we need.  To add your info to an existing question use OPTIONS->EDIT. It’s in the upper right of your post.

It also helps to know if you are using a laptop or a desktop and a wired or wireless connection.

Without that information all we can do is guess. That means you have to try all our bad guesses and eliminate them one by one. This is easier for all of us, if you give us good information to start with.

The causes of bake fail has changed over the last year. It is rare. The primary cause now is a poor connection to the Second Life servers. You may have a good Internet connection, but that does NOT mean you have a good connection to SL. To check your connection to SL see: http://blog.nalates.net/2011/10/26/troubleshoot-your-sl-connection/

You are not clear about whether you avatar is invisible or a particle cloud. The causes are very different depending on which it is.

If you are a particle cloud, try changing your BALD, shape, or clothing items. Then change your active group. That last one sounds unrelated. But, some quirk in the viewer triggers an appearance update.

Another troubleshooting step is to replace your appearance with one of the inventory/library avatars. If that fails, you most likely have a connection problem.
