Deannah Dinzel
Okay so when I open up Second Life, my screen goes black for a moment and then responds normally. I log in and my avatar and any movement around me is fluttery/jittery/wavy. It's almost like my graphics card is having issues catching up, because my cursor even has a tail. I spent an entire day trying to figure out the problem. I thought it was my card, but when I exit SL and enter WoW or Diablo 3 it's back to normal. I even uninstalled and reinstalled my graphics card drivers to make sure. I have no lag and everything looks good otherwise, but this jitteryness makes SL complete unenjoyable for me, because it's too much strain on my eyes. Here is my computer's information, yes I know it's from Firestorm, but the regular viewer and Singularity do not work either.Firestorm 4.6.1 (40478) Mar 10 2014 05:38:17 (Firestorm-Releasex64) with OpenSimulator supportRelease NotesYou are at 213.3, 72.5, 1,801.1 in Hollywood Park located at sim4209.agni.lindenlab.com (216.82.18.129:12035)SLURL: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Hollywood%20Park/213/73/1801(global coordinates 156,629.0, 334,665.0, 1,801.1)Second Life Server 14.03.12.288004Release NotesCPU: AMD FX(tm)-6300 Six-Core Processor (3511.83 MHz)Memory: 16283 MBOS Version: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit (Build 9600)Graphics Card Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc.Graphics Card: AMD Radeon R7 200 SeriesWindows Graphics Driver Version: 8.17.0010.1247OpenGL Version: 4.2.12618 Compatibility Profile Context 13.251.0.0RestrainedLove API: (disabled)libcurl Version: libcurl/7.24.0 OpenSSL/1.0.1e zlib/1.2.6 c-ares/1.10.0J2C Decoder Version: KDU v7.3.2Audio Driver Version: FMOD Ex 4.44.26Qt Webkit Version: 4.7.1 (version number hard-coded)Voice Server Version: Vivox 4.5.0009.17865Settings mode: FirestormViewer Skin: Firestorm (Grey)Font Used: Deja Vu (96)Draw distance: 128Bandwidth: 500LOD factor: 2Render quality: High (5/7)Texture memory: 512 MB (1)Built with MSVC version 1600Packets Lost: 0/3,418 (0.0%)
Nalates Urriah
With the R7 200 you have a couple of things going against you. A small amount of texture memory (vram) and inherent poor OpenGL performance according to benchmarks. SL uses OpenGL. The other games user DirectX which has about 10x better performance on this ATI card. In general ATI does not work as well on SL as nVidia does. However, the R7 200 series is supposed to make a great bitcoin miner... which has held the price up.
