There are plenty of role-play games in SL that do just that. The Lindens have also created some games that you may enjoy.  Visit around and see.  So long as you can script them yourself or hire a team to do the work, you should be able to set up your game.  The only thing to watch out for is the Linden Lab Gambling Policy, so that you are not letting people win cash in a game that depends on chance.

As I said, it all depends on your level of skill as a scripter. If you can script your game, do it. Most of the games that Linden Lab makes available in world, like Linden Realms, depend on special LSL functions that are not available to normal scripters, but you can create games that do not need those functions. It's a LOT of work, though.....
