sl crashes before login page

sl crashes before login screen appears.  I have the correct viewer installed and nothing else. The screen presents distorted large view before it closes and presents the crash notice.

Try doing a clean reinstall, according to the directions here:  http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-Second-Life/ta-p/1375231

Also, check to see that you have the latest graphics drivers installed for your video card.
