receipt for a transaction

I paid someone some Linden many months ago. How do I get a record or reciept of this transaction?

You don't.  Your Transaction History only contains records for the past 30 days.  Any older transactions are wiped clean. If you will want to have older records in the future, you will need to be in the habit of downloading the spreadsheet once a month to your own hard drive.
