Question

How can i reposition my Edit box when Ive lost it??? Coz it seems to have dropped BELOW my bottom task bar and i cant get at it to grab it to reposition it back up where i can see it :(

It's when i right click on something to EDIT it. The Edit box itself won't show up on my screen as it has somehow moved BELOW my bottom taskbar/toolbar..which won't move down or disappear for me to retrieve it.

Same with the Build box too.

Is there anyway to removed the bottom chat and taskbar totally (temporarily of course)????

If you are talking about the build menu, you should be able to deselect any object you are working on and toggle the build menu using the top tool bar or key command.

You can press Ctrl+4 or Ctrl+B or select Build from the top menu on your Viewer.

If it is those icons things, I forget what they are called, you can deselect and reselect an icon in settings.

The sure way to get it back is to perform a clean install of your viewer. During the Clean Install process you manually delete the old XML configuration files that are borked up.

OK Do the following:

1) Reinstall SL again using the official version from Linden Lab. [be sure to do a clean install - Instructions are at the link below]

.... http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-Second-Life/ta-p/1375231

Here is the Windows 8 Manual System File cleanup procedure since it's not in the procedure above.

Windows 8 and Windows 8.1

.... 1) Open C:\Users\(PC Login Name)\AppData\Local and delete the contents of the SecondLife folder.
.... 2) Open C:\Users\(PC Login Name)\AppData\Roaming and delete the contents of the SecondLife folder.
.... 3) Uninstall Second Life using the Programs and Features tool in the Windows Control Panel.
.... 4) Download and install the latest release of the Second Life Viewer from http://secondlife.com/support/downloads/.

Note: (PC Login Name) is the Windows 8 User Account Login Name

If you can't see the files or folders described above:
.... 1) Using File Explorer navigate to -> Libraries / Computer / ( C: ) / Users /
.... 2) Press the Continue button to get permission to obtain permanent permission edit this directory.
.... 3) From the View drop-down menu option select Options & Change Folder & Search Options
.... 4) Select the View Tab
.... 5) Under the Hidden Files and Folders options click on the - O Show hidden files, folders & Drives radio button
.... 6) Push the Apply Button then the OK button.

2) Login using that Viewer and wait for a complete Login and Inventory rebuild.

3) Afterwards, you may use any viewer you prefer but I recommend a clean install of that viewer as well following their instructions.

Hi Lola,

The edit window may well be hiding behind the toolbar buttons. You can temporarily drag them to a side or the top of the viewer window to expose the hiding edit window, them put the back when you've moved it back on-screen. You can also right click on a toolbar button and select "Remove this button" from the menu. You can put it (and others) back by right clicking any button and selecting "Toolbar buttons..." from the menu, or by selecting "Toolbar Buttons" from the "Me" or "Avatar" menu.

Happens to me all the time.  I came back today looking for an answer again.  I lost the edit box off the screen, and I try to drag it back on the screen using the mouse, but it doesnt seem to be found anywhere.  I'm trying a restart lol.

Advanced>Debug Settings, set both floater_pos_build_x and floater_pos_build_y to 0.  close debug settings and press ctrl+3
