Why is the current version of the LL Viewer (3.6.12.284506) constantly downloading and reinstalling?

The Viewer has downloaded and installed this same version 5 times tonight already.

I keep crashing after about 30-45 mins of activity, and every second time, it reinstalls.

Good question.  That has to be annoying.  If I were you, I'd open Preferences >>> General and turn off the toggle that downloads upgrades automatically. 

I doubt that the downloader is what's making you crash, though.  You probably ought to focus on solving that problem.  Perhaps clearing your viewer completely and doing a clean manual re-install would help >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-Second-Life/ta-p/1375231

Hi Talarus,

I think you're dealing with two separate issues. I'm not sure what's causing your crashing, but Rolig's suggestion might help.

As for the constant updating, that's a known issue caused by a goofup in naming the viewer. Oz Linden describes the error and the solution here...
