Hi Rudi,

Thanks for your reply. I'm sorry I'm completly new to Second Life so I don't know how it works to be honest. I just assumed there was simply male and female avatars, I didn't think to take into account the other forms of avatar. Apologies, no discriminatory remarks were intended here!

My original question should have read something along the lines of, how many SL residents playing male or female gender avatars, mimicking humans, stick to their RL genders?

Not sure if that makes any more sense?

Sorry again.

Hey everyone,

Just wondering how many of you stick to your real life genders when in Second Life? Is it frowned upon to switch to the other gender?

Thanks (:

It's generally accepted that there all kinds of 'gender tourists' in SL. It's the very raison d'etre for many places in-world.

Only small minded idiots would frown upon such a thing.  That being said, I just wouldn't feel comfortable playing a gender other than my RL own and I'm almost certain I would never be able to convincingly pull it off (no pun intended).

My main account is a shapeshifter who self-identifies as female, but who will, depending on circumstances, become male, female or a hermaphrodite. I have other accounts that are strictly male or strictly female. Most of my accounts, including my main one, aren't even Human. But all my SL accounts are fictional characters that I use for roleplaying, so of course I have all sorts of variations. The author of a book or the screen-writer of a movie doesn't limt themselves to characters that match their own gender, so why should I?

None of my avatars is a clone of the real me. I don't need SL to be myself.

Presumably you endorse the sentiments expressed in this video.

It is a little known fact that Nancy Kwan was born male . . .

Seeing as she had a biological son who passed away in 1996, i highly doubt she was born male.

I believe someone much more technosavvy than myself has suggested that you shouldn't believe everything you read on the internet.

Lots of people play an avatar that's different from their own RL gender. Personally I find it just as tedious and difficult trying to pretend to be female in SL as it was trying to do the same thing in RL.

The only people who are really bothered are the ones looking for something to fap to (and are too homophobic to risk the chance that they might accidentally fap to someone with the same RL gender as their own).

You're saying men can't have biological sons? So what do paternity tests prove?

SHE was married to a man when SHE got pregnant. Please explain how 2 men can concieve a child without a surrogate. As far as i know it is imposible for a genetic male to get pregnant.

I'm a male in RL....the character is male in SL....I once wondered if it mattered who was behind the female avatar...my character told me it didn't that HE was inworld and I was only tech support....my character said if it looks like a female avatar...then inworld it is a female avatar and nail it. My character is terrible and I try to control him....he just won't listen....what's a tech support guy to do?????

I was told the same thing by my avatar.. I found it easiest to just go along for the ride. When he gets in a mood it can last for days. Just sitting in an empty sim, staring into space. Not good. Just do what he wants.

I've a friend who was male rl when she started in sl and now is female rl. How does that count in your dataset? :matte-motes-sunglasses-1:

My situation is like that but reversed. I've always had a male SL avatar, now my RL avatar matches. It didn't when I started.

Once upon a time, when escorting made money, I believe the stats were that about 80% or so were men playing females to make money. With all the females giving it away for free now, unless you want real roleplay, people don't pay. I'm female and have female and male alts. I know of several clubs that before you can escort there you have to voice verify your gender. That I don't understand since with a voice morpher you can sound like what you want to.

I have a friend that's male but has a female avi in most games. He said he'd rather watch a female running around for hours than a male. Others go female because of the clothing options you don't have as a male.

In SL you are what your avi is unless you tell me differently.
