Question

My boyfriend would like to have his own airfield alongside our 'home' so we can fly to our friend's airfields and they can come to ours.  Can we specifically order such land direct from Linden?  l would assume it would need to be mainland.

We need to be sure that no one can put up ban lines which will prevent us from flying off with a plane properly - as my boyfriend kind of likes things to be as realistic as possible. The land on auction so far mostly always seems to have property around it, even if presently some of it does not have ban lines.  We would like to be sure that once we buy the land and spend the money, it does not suddenly become useless cos someone blocks us from flying off for any reason (ban lines or whatever) - we would also like to have a bit of sea anyways so as to have a boat to sail off in too.

We are talking a fairly big piece of land like some 20K to 30K aprox. but not a full sim as that would then be too much.

Any suggestions how we can get this please

THANK YOU ALL WHO HAVE ANSWERED (sorry about caps but wanted to make sure u would see the ty)

You don't have to buy mainland at auction. If you go to the World Map and select the box that says "Land Sales" all land that's for sale will be highlighted in yellow. That will either be land that's been abandoned and is being sold for L$1 per square meter or land being sold by others. You should be able to find a piece of land that will do what you want but it may be quite expensive because waterfront land is popular.

The only way to guarantee that some bozo won't come along and set up ban lines across your flight path six months from now is to buy or rent land on a private estate.  That's one reason why there are more private sims in SL than Mainland ones.  You have more control over how the land is used.  Try looking for private sims that already have airfields on them, perhaps.  Some of the flying clubs might be a place to ask.

Answering your basic question, though .... No, there is no way that LL is going to move Mainland parcels around from one sim to another to get your current parcels nearer to each other, and you can't "order" land configured the way you'd like it either.  Just as in RL, you have to shop around to find land that meets your requirements.

20 to 30K sqm of land is more than one sim.  You'd need a little less than two sims for that.

Even on most private estates and mainland where ban lines can't or aren't being used security systems are allowed and can block your flight path if you fly near them.  Additionally on ALL types of land, if a land owner doesn't have enough free prims for your plane, or has blocked object entry on their land you can't fly over it.

The bottom line is the only way to assure you have a clear flight path without being blocked is to own or rent all of the land that you plan on flying over.  You have no guaranteed right to fly over anyone's private land if they don't want you to.

Your best bet is to look for a parcel on the shore of the blake sea that you can take off and be over linden owned water when you fly.

I also recommend that your boyfriend buy a navigation HUD that shows where ban lines or parcel full areas are up in plenty of time to avoid them.  Here is one that I love and that works well.
