when is LL going to put a stop to this kind of nuisance posting. My email get filled with up with hundreds of emails from community forums every day. I know i could easily opt out, but i want to keep in touch with SL issues. surely LL could write a programm and that anyone posting more the 2 or 3 posts in a minute be banned. surely it couldnt be that hard. I know making forums inaccessible to newbys wouldnt work. I am really getting sick of recieving these hundreds of emails a day, especially when my phone is constantly making sounds at work. I still need to hear my phone to so turning it down is also not the answer, besides, why should I give up anything when I am not the one being the niusance. Sl forums nuisances

Gee, maybe I am naive to think they gave a **bleep**, but suddenly, I am questioning why I ever gave a **bleep** when there are arseholes like you as advisors. Ignorant I am not, but i think you are. so wise in the world of SL, is that all you do all day? thanks for nothing at all

I think you'll find, Wiked, that the reason people are coming across as "arseholes" as you put it, is because everyone on these forums are frustrated too about the situation.

It would be more constructive if the energy used was put into thinking about ways of getting through to LL to emphasise the importance of clear communication, especially as newbies access these pages for help, and the adverts for escorts is no way to retain users.

I would have filled out a JIRA about this, but I believe feature request is no longer in existence.

Maybe if all of us put in a support ticket? Or wrote a letter to HQ stating politely why and how they need to take action against spammer posts.

I personally would not find it hard at all to keep looking through the names of newly-appearing residents to these forums who are likely to be posting the next bunch of spam, but the spammer obviously takes great delight in refreshing the list of online personnel and the moment mods go AFK, he's back again plying.

You can rest assured that I was not calling you ignorant, but merely stating that from what I gathered from your OP, you were ignorant of the fact that many people have complained multiple times about the whore spam here and nothing has been done about it yet.  If that makes me an arsehole, then so be it.

It's still possible to submit feature requests, but it's done by submitting a bug report and just including "FEATURE REQUEST" in the title. That's not to say feature requests get any attention, and of course the Jira is now specially configured to minimize its utility, so it may not be worth the effort.

On the other hand, it's pretty clear that nothing else is helping, so probably a jira is as good a suggestion as any.

If the Lab ever responded at all, it seems about equal chance of them trying to fix the forums or simply pulling the plug. Although they've evidently supplied resources to clean out the spam occasionally, they've shown no other interest in the platform, so it may be simply left running until it needs any real attention.

Oh cool, Qie :)

Since JIRAs stopped being viewable by everyone, I haven't happened by there at all.

So if Wiked and the others so inclined want to stick in a 'Feature Request', it'd be worth a try at a least. Got to be better than ranting on a forum and resorting to calling other forum users "arseholes" ! :matte-motes-agape:

Thanks Qie

:smileysurprised:

Suddenly I wonder if our OP is funning with us, about the email thing.

The irony being that even the most basic email spam detection should easily screen out the problematic posts. Counter-intuitively, then, reading this forum through forwarded email may be the best way to avoid the spam.

Talk about riding technology's trailing edge.

Plus some people really are arseholes :)

If the one in question wasn't one, he would have passed the information on without being so insulting about it. But sometimes arseholes feel the need to be, well.... arseholes. It's their nature.

There is a subforum called 'Forum Feedback'  and this appears to be feedback that you are providing.  You might try to repost there or at least link this thread there but no guarantees that anyone in LL will look at it.  We once were assured that mods were on hand 24/7 to deal with spammers and that seems obviously not to be the case.

Ah but to other arseholes, those arseholes can seem quite charming. And not to be forgetting that some people can just temporarily be arseholes because (a) they need a pooh; (b) they need the love of a good woman/man/pet; © they need to get out into the sunshine a little more and away from their basement.

But I see where you're coming from :matte-motes-big-grin-wink:

I'd forgotten that was there. Plus already the complaints made about this spammer issue that has got ignored. Forums feedback = placebo button ! :smileyfrustrated:

I dont think she ment it badly, sometimes people get little lables in their names and it gives them a sense of superiority and word choices or phrasing can seem harsher.  Also, often one can be ignorant of ways, rules and such. Not always this word is insult. (also I think all advisor means is they put a lot of posts in the forums, or someone voted for them) IDK... Im not here enough to care.

Having the label 'Advisor' is automatic, just like your 'Member' label is. It says nothing about the credibility of the person.

The word 'ignorant' is very often used in perfectly good ways, but, in this case, it was used to be insulting. The person who wrote it is known for it.

He could have written something like, "You may be ignorant of the fact that ...." That's a good way of using it.

Instead, he wrote, "Are you honestly too ignorant to realize that ..." That's an insulting way of using it.

Turn off email notifications.

The spammers hit this place hard often. There's no Captcha system in place for registering an account, and we know by LLs own figures that spammers have made thousands of accounts per day for SL. Now that we have reliable forums - they're finally using them.

Consider that most accounts made for SL never log in to "the game / service"... Its not that they give up... its that they were made to be SEO forum bots, and this place triggers in the web-crawlers spam companies use to look for places to automatically create bot posting accounts.

(Written about that on my blog).

LLs moderators are actually pretty good about clearing out the bots. I've run a forum with less traffic than this one before, and it was not easy keeping on top of them. No one works 24/7, though some tech companies in SF now are trying to push for this as a 'new work culture'... so if the moderator isn't on shift, things will stay until (s)he gets into work. That's just the nature of life online when your company doesn't have the manpower to staff tagential non-essential services 24/7.

As for real posters you don't care for, just choose not to read their topics. Lots of people enjoy lively conversation. Some people only want to say one thing a century, and have no response: but that's not how forums tend to work. They attract people who like to gab and gossip. :)

You may be ignorant of the fact that it was not my intent to be insulting to the OP.  I do admit that my wording was such that it may have seemed that way and, in retrospect, I believe I could have done a better job of getting my point across.  Alas, I did not... so shoot me.  I'll live.

What you may not understand is that I harbor no illusions of grandeur due to my rank here in this forum.  The only reason I have this rank is because of the amount of kudos I got when I won one of those silly forum contests.  At the time, I wasn't pleased and stated that I believed contest kudos shouldn't count toward rank, but there was nothing I could do about it.  As Phil stated, rank is calculated automatically.

Consequently, I'm well aware of the fact that rank is pretty meaningless in this forum.  Yet I always find it rather amusing when someone makes a point of mentioning it when discussing something someone has posted.  You see, even though I may be here more than you, it's quite possible that I care about rank less than you do... since I rarely even notice them.
