Question

I upgraded my operating system from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, and I could not open Second Life Viewer for incompatibility. Then I uninstalled it with the intention of installing it again, but Windows 8.1 did not allow it. You know what someone should do so that it can install without problems again? Thank you.

I thank Lisha Joya  and Lane KarenMichelle their advice to overcome my problem when wanting to install the official Second Life viewer in the Windows 8.1 operating system , but , despite having completely uninstalled and deleted the folders that I suggested , my problem remains.
And what happens to me is this:
When I click the installation file Second Life , Second_Life_3 - 6-10 - 282997_Setup.exe , I get a window which asks me the language of the installer. I reply " Spanish " and I give "ok" . Next window asks " Installer Directory " and I suggested : C : \ Program Files ( x86 ) \ SecondLifeViewer , I reply "OK " . Next window : " Second Life : installing. Checking network connection ... " And just at that moment , it crashes , no progress and not installed .
And I have internet connection. I've checked everything. I think it should be a problem of configuring the new Windows 8.1 operating system , I do not know and for which I ask for help . Is no one to whom this has happened ? . Thanks for the help .

This procedure will install the version if SL that automatically installs and runs in Windows 8 Compatibility Mode.

OK Do the following:

1) Reinstall SL again using the official version from Linden Lab. [be sure to do a clean install]

http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-Second-Life/ta-p/1375231

Here is the Windows 8 Manual System File cleanup procedure since it's not in the procedure above.

Windows 8 and Windows 8.1

    1) Open C:\Users\\AppData\Local and delete the contents of the SecondLife folder.
    2) Open C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming and delete the contents of the SecondLife folder.
    3) Uninstall Second Life using the Programs and Features tool in the Windows Control Panel.
    4) Download and install the latest release of the Second Life Viewer from http://secondlife.com/support/downloads/.

Note: is the Windows 8 User Account Login Name

If you can't see the files or folders described above:
    1) Using File Explorer navigate to -> Libraries / Computer / ( C: ) / Users /
    2) Press the Continue button to get permission to obtain permanent permission edit this directory.
    3) From the View drop-down menu option select Options & Change Folder & Search Options
    4) Select the View Tab
    5) Under the Hidden Files and Folders options click on the - O Show hidden files, folders & Drives radio button
    6) Push the Apply Button then the OK button.

2) Login using that Viewer and wait for a complete Login and Inventory rebuild.

3) Afterwards, you may use any viewer you prefer but I recommend a clean install of that viewer as well following their instructions.

:D

Windows 8.1 is giving ALOT of people problems and not just in SL either (try going back to windows 8 again NOT 8.1 (8.1 is unstable in my opinion)

Personally go back to windows 8 - then reinstall Secondlife again....

I was talking to my family that have "upgraded" from windows 8  to 8.1 and a lot of things are wrong with it

Plus i have spokento alot of my SL friends who have 8.1 and they had to revert back to windows 8 to get on SL

So they had to go back to windows 8 - just to get on SL!

So try that

Ok I'm guessing your Windows 8.1 install is missing a patch or two.

Dear OP,

All Windows 8 Users

1) Manually apply ALL the Required and Important patches for Windows 8 from Microsoft. A new Win 8 PC needs 4-5 iterations of this to get them all. The easiest way to do this is to:

a) Enter Desktop Mode

b) Launch Internet Explorer

c) Right-click on the options area of the Browser and turn on Menu & Status Bar [and any other of the old standards you like]

d) Tools / Windows Update.

e) Select the CUSTOM button so you can monitor and select the downloaded options to install e) Repeat until all are DL'd and installed

Note: Don't install the Bing Desktop. Also, don;t install any Windows Live components unless you have an email account with Microsoft.

Please verify that all patches have been applied as well.
