Anaktay
I found this link, can someone tell me if this is legit? http://wmpoweruser.com/get-second-life-on-your-windows-mobile-phone/If not, where can I get a download for SL for Windows phone? 0 Rolig Loon
There are several compliant SL viewers designed for use with mobile devices. The only one that offers you any graphics is the Lumiya viewer, which works on Android phones. All of the others are text-only. Don't expect full features on a cell phone. You need a real computer to handle the full range of SL features. Be very cautious about installing viewers that are not on Linden Lab's list of viewers that have agreed to Linden Lab's Third-Party Viewer policy. There are some good, respectable viewers among them, but there are also ones that can potentially compromise your privacy.
0 Anaktay
Thanks! So does Lumiya viewer work for Windows phone for sure? I don't want to pay for it if it's going to flop, ya know.
0 Rolig Loon
All I can tell you is what's on the Lumiya web site. It is designed for Android phones, but I know nothing about whether it works with Windows phone.
0 Lindal Kidd
While there are limited viewers for Apple and Android devices, there are no SL viewers for the Windows phone system. Sorry. EDIT: Well, well...maybe there IS one now, although the link you gave says it's still in beta. Try it, and let us know how it works!
0 Fenimore Hapmouche
That video is from 2008 and nothing has happened since, so don't get too excited. From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vollee "As of this time, Vollee appears to no longer exist. Phone numbers for their California office have been disconnected and their website is no longer reachable. A Mirror of it also appeared but it has been removed as well." 0 Griffin Ceawlin
Discontinued Vollee services have been offline for the past 6 months or more(current date is december 2009), and the vollee.com web site has been down in this period also. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Vollee
0 PeterCanessa Oh
You want it, you write it :-) http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Open_Source_Portal The viewer source code is open-source (although god knows when LL updated it last), which is why there are several Third Party Viewers (TPVs). The servers have no reliable way to determine what hardware or software you are using but anyone writing their own TPV is required to sign-up to and comply with LL's TPV policy. The way 3d-viewers like that one worked on phones is to have a proper computer linked to SL, doing all the hard work, then re-transmitting the results to your fashion accessory of choice. Lumiya seems to be about the acme of remote, low-powered independent viewers for now. Considering that SL requires a very clean and stable internet connection and the very identifying feature of these toys is their mobility it is never likely to be a good experience matching the two. If you are in a part of the world where bandwidth is not unlimited you also have to consider the cost of streaming all that video and voice (since you have no keyboard). 0 Sparrow777
So obviously SL for Windows phone was possible at one time. If that's true why can't we get it back? Can't somebody else just take up where Vollee left off?
0 Rolig Loon
If you want to do it, go ahead. It's a really small market, so it's not likely that most developers will want to go to all the trouble of writing and debugging the code, especially since all SL viewers are free. Actually, IIRC the Vollee viewer was pretty buggy, which is probably why they folded.
0 sillyjester
I am going to add to this, but please do not get at all "excited", as I am still investigating the possibility - but I am currently planning on putting together an app for windowsPhone 8. I have been reviewing the code and information posted earier in this thread - I have been looking for the same thing, and as someone else said earlier - can't find it, build it Right now I am planning on keeping the funcitonality somewhat simple, and similar to Radegast - text only. If anyone is interested in helping, at whatever level, feel free to get in touch - and, obviously nothing will really start until after the new year.
