Is it possible to retrieve Lindens sent to SYSTEM via a bug?

I typed the recipient's name wrong in the search (by one letter) and I opened up a non-existing profile page - it must be a glitch in my text viewer. I then paid this glitched profile page, sure enough the Lindens disappeared from my balance. The transaction shows up in my transaction history and the lindens appear to have been paid to SYSTEM (not a user account, but second life itself). Update: I received the 8000L from the labs after posting a query using the paypal questions form. No need to call them.

All you can do is call the Linden Lab billing office and ask. You can't be the first person who has done that, unlikely as it seems.
