Pictures (images) are textures / textures are pictures (images).

Second Life supports TGA (32-bit supports alpha channel), PNG (24-bit supports alpha channel), and BMP. When you upload an image, the Viewer internally converts it to JPG2000 for optimized future transmission.

Griffin has shown you the way.  Now I'm going to suggest that you NOT DO IT.

Uploading a picture of your Real Life self and including it in an ad for escorting carries real risks.  What if someone who sees it recognizes you, and decides to stalk you in Real Life?  Or gives the picture to your boss, or your mom?

All these things can and have happened.  Protect your real life identity.

To clarify - a picture IS a texture just like any other graphics file in SL.  Whatever graphics file you import can be used to texture any object (that you have modify rights for).

You don't say what game you're in or what sort of thing your ad is so we can't give you specific advice on those.  Most advertising boards have instructions in a notecard for how to set their texture (picture), contents to give on touch, landmark, etc.
