How can I have may avatar stay in the position it is when I log off as I log on?  For instance, if my avatar is sitting when I log off, how can i have it sitting when i log in instead of it standing up?

You can't.  When you log off, your avatar disappears, just as if you had teleported to another location.  All running animations...dances, sits, and so on...are cancelled.

The only way you can stay sat is to disable the "log out after XX minutes of inactivity" and simply stay logged in all the time.  I don't recommend this -- your friends tend to decorate your avatar and take embarrassing pictures of you when you are away.  At least MY friends do.  :matte-motes-oh-rly:
