Answer borrowed from Rolig's previous posts on the subject :D [Pink/Purple it's all the same issue]

As soon as you typed the word "PINK" in your question's title, you should have seen a HUGE selection of threads in the sidebar, suggesting that maybe 400 people have asked the same question here in the past month.  Take a look >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/forums/searchpage/tab/message?filter=location&location=qanda-boar...

Update your graphics card drivers.

Identify the Video / Graphics system in your PC and get the most current drivers direct from the Video System manufacturer.

Well, first of all Karen, I don't see anywhere in his question where he asked about his avatar being PINK like the 400 other people,  but he asked why HE WAS PURPLE to other people who see him as PURPLE??  I have the same problem and asking everyone to change their graphics card is clearly not the answer to his or my question. I have been in second life for 8 years with 5 avatars and one with much more complexity then all of them is fine and can be seen perfectly, so there is another reason why the less complex one is PURPLE??

Hi Caly!  As Rolig says, this is a six year old post.  At that time, some Radeon graphics drivers were producing the problem described.  The color was actually a sort of purplish pink, so that's why both words are being used.  This all was way before complexity controls were introduced, and although one of the "jelly doll" colors IS purple, this thread has nothing to do with that.

Searching for existing threads before asking your question is a terrific idea.  Unfortunately, these forums don't have a date cutoff, and often return results from way, way back in the mists of time.  Be sure to check the dates of the posts you're responding to...to keep from killing any more kittens!
