If you're logging in with your main grid account it has to fetch all of your inventory. That is why it is recommended to create an alt with no inventory to log into the beta. Keeps the beta less bogged down with all your inventory data and the intialization of the first login is a lot smoother

The best answer (only slightly sarcastic) is that there's a good reason why they call it a BETA viewer.  You take a chance when you use any software that is not ready for full release.

If you're lucky, though, it may just be the sim that you're on and it may also just be that it's Tuesday.  Try logging in at a nice quiet sim like Smith, Pooley, or Hippo Hollow.  You'll land under water.  Move away from the landing spot and then open your inventory.  Type any letter at all in the Search box to trigger your viewer to start fetching inventory.  Then WAIT patiently until all the fetching is done.  Go make a cup of coffee.

Other than using a non-beta viewer, the other thing that will help is NOT using wireless.  Wireless is generally a bad idea in SL anyway, and can be a real problem when your viewer and the servers are having to move a large amount of data.

If these suggestions do not work, come back here.  Click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT. Please do not start a new thread. Doing that makes it hard for us to see what other people have already suggested, and it pushes other residents' questions off the page.
