Unless your distribution seriously modded things, it'll have the same UX as GNOME 2.x. Debian doesn't do such customization. Though even without fallback mode, Debian doesn't use Unity, it uses GNOME Shell, which isn't bad, though may be a bit of a GPU pig if you're trying to run SL on an underpowered machine while using it. As for stats, try googling for the linux counter. I only do homework for people who can't be bothered if they're at least basically polite.
