Why is SL so laggy?

Why is SL so laggy that I can barely move anywhere? I have cleared out my cache and all and I still laggy as ever? I have never been this laggy since I started SL and this is crazy..Please help me.

Some of the tips mentioned on that page are to lower the cache size, and to switch the Texture Compression setting.

That's one of the oldest and most complicated questions in SL.  Nine times out of ten, the answer is that your own computer or Internet connection are the cause of the problem, but there are in-world causes as well.  In addition to the link that Martin gave you, take a look at http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/lag and http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_very_laggy.
