I'm attempting to make a practice dummy, and I'd like to know where I should start as far as scripting it goes. I'm okay at scripting, but I still have much to learn.

The dummy is already made and very simple, and I also want the dummy to be compatible with DCS only, pretty much. Should the script be collision based, or?

Thank you. :)

A dummy?  As in a bot?  If it's meant to be semi-autonomous, you'll need to read up on how bots work in SL

See http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Bot  and http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Second_Life_bot_software_comparison for a start.

If that's not what you had in mind, and you're just interested in a statue-like thing that you can use as a greeter or a scarecrow or for target practice, then you don't have to do anything special at all.

There's this set of scripts from the old, old forums you might like to take a look at: Shooting Target Practice Drone.

It's ages since I've done anything with DCS, but, in general, projectile weapons are colliison based but melee weapons use very narrow sensors to record hits.   You might want to contact the DCS devs for advice -- I always found them very helpful.
