Do gay/bi women outnumber straight women in SL?

Sorry to necrobump this thread...

I've found that many straight women learn to enjoy playing with other women precisely because of the issue raised above with male players: many do not role play that well while female players will emote much better and understand exactly what other female players enjoy. This doesn't mean that the straight women find other women sexually attractive, it just means they enjoy playing the kinky games they would be unable to play in RL with other women in SL. This tends to happen in BDSM and capture roleplay in which one woman assumes the dominant role and the other is controlled by the other. Some straight female players won't admit that this is "Lesbian domme/sub" gameplay for fear of being labelled, but essentially it is that.

It shouldn't be frowned upon, just understood to be a way in which some straight women can explore a kink more easily with another female. (And who cares how it is labelled anyway?)

Eh, using RL statistics for SL is inherently flawed. Hypothetically, there could be more lesbians or homosexuals signing up than heterosexuals. Because of that you can have a disproportionate demographic makeup. That wouldn't even necessarily make SL a lesbian or homosexual meet up spot. Just a matter of predominate population.

I agree with Tex that a good many of the 'lesbians' you see are actually men in RL.  There are also straight women who say they are lesbians so men don' t bother them for sex because even if you put you aren't interested in slex in your profile, some men take it as a challenge.

That's what I thought of the first set of 3 "lesbians" I ran into in SL. They were neighbors on my first plot of land. Then I learned they were 3 straight married women 'playing around'... It got super awkward when the RL husband of one joined SL to see what his wife was 'up to' and she rapidly sold her land and tried to hide from him in SL...

I'm somewhat thankful that they helped me realize very early on that I did not want to do any SL relationships... the potential drama is just not worth it when you can get your 'pixel porn' fix so easily without it and then just move on...

Saying you're a 'lesbian' is actually a way of attracting men to hit on you... in my experience... It was one tactic I tried back when I was trying for a 'G-rated SL'...

Oh an yes... I had more people bug me for 'the sexxy time' back when I was a 'fully G rated SLer' than now... the vast majority of them where on avatars of women with a 'lower male attachment'... I don't know why that crowd has a fixation on me...

Marketing studies have been showing that the majority of buyers and players of video games are actually women over 30. The myth that 'all gamers are teenage boys' really needs to die...

It is also worth noting that SL may be a safe space for people who lack that in RL. I'm thinking of how an NPR show I heard yesterday was noting that 'facetime' or some other social media app, was becoming very popular for gay men along the India / Pakistan border - who could not ever meet in RL, so they date online.

I've noticed the various club venues I've visited tend to have a fairly very high ratio of female avatars declaring themselves as bisexual or gay in their profile versus female avatars who do not (and I assume are straight).

The whole world caters to straight folk.. Second Life is an LGBT mecca. It's easier to find like minded people, make friends, feel comfortable, be open, especially if you're introverted or unsure or questioning. Second Life is where people find themselves.

I think some people would be shocked to actually know how many sl females they have interacted with are males real life.

As far as real life men playing female avatars convincing people in game and on forums they are also females in real life, have fun lol. That's a big part of that game eh!

It's actually an art form and subtle on so many levels. For example, you would never directly tell some one you are female real life. You use heuristics, which is basically inserting clues in casual conversations so that they decide you are a real life female. . For example, you meet a female shopping while impersonating a female. You are talking about the clothes and you say something like, "omg if my real life boyfriend knew I was spending this much in a game on virtual clothes he would kill me! lol "

Not directly, but since cutting my hair short and getting deep into home remodeling, I have been called "sir" by more than one person.

I'd open my shirt and show 'em my boobs, but that wouldn't help.

and 2. Ninety-five percent of all lesbian and bi women in SL are men.

Make an alt with a female name, and a "believable" female shape, not one of those "obviously a guy" hyper bimbos...

Walk around SL, experience the typical attitudes and typical pickup methods used by the majority of SL males...

THEN you'll understand why so many SL females have profiles that attempt to discourage males, or reply "No, I am a lesbian" when IM spammed by the ones who don't read or take notice of profiles, or who just say "**** off and die" when IM'd by strange men.

Seriously.

SL Lesbianism is the natural response to guys who think that the correct way to greet a crowd of female avatars they just TP'd into is...

"Hello Laaaaadeeeeeeys! So... Who's first in the line to suck my MAN MEAT! You, with the big boobs, big ass, fake tan and the blond hair, You're up next! Skinny flat chested paper white emo chick... Back of the line!"

It doesn't work though, it even backfires badly. Men will still hit on you because they don't know how to read profiles but now lesbians - who do read profiles - will do it too.

So, you're saying it won't have any effect, good or bad, on the pesky would-be sausage vendors who will still need to be told to fornicate off, but will attract interesting non-sausage types...

And the down side is what exactly? :D

Yes

Well, yes. Not everybody will regard it as a downside, I have to give you that. :P

But then there are those guys who somehow have managed to become litterate enough to read a profile and are convinced that all lesbians will suddenly see the right way if they only get the chance to fornificate with a real man...

Not to intentionally mess with the OP’s mind.....but maybe the question should leave off the “in SL” part ?

What if only one gender was predominantly Hetro and the other was just playing along?

I probably just either gave some people Performance Issues or really turned them on....

If only we could apply our powers of Necromancy to people rather than threads...

As for the topic, of course there are. That's because it's the Internet, where Men are Men, most Women are Men, and Kids are FBI Agents.

I’ve been scanning through most of this post, and what I can’t figure out is how many posters here have had persons come up to them and send them a message... I’m finding it extremely hard to make friendships in SL.

holy necropost....as to making friendships the easy answer to that is stop trying. I am being serious there. Just chat to people, don't necessarily wait for them to talk to you. Find something in a profile makes you curious....im and ask. Talk in local. Friendships are not something you can seek out they are something that happen when you are chatting to someone and find the chat keeps going

I recently got banned from a very popular? female meeting place after I showed a male intruder & horrid abusive griefer a cage gun.
The presumption the poor feeble minded banner made was that I was there for "relationships" lol. (that's the sort of place it is).
I guess mummy hadn't taken down enough coke and crisps for her and she was feeling mightily miffed at the world at the time.

I go to places to see avis and fashion because I like to make clothes and have a good laugh if there's intelligent lifeforms.
Some *people just cant get past the pixel bumping thing I suppose - lol
I've never been happier to do without the whole "you don't know what gender I am" and 15 avis standing about with no chatting thing quite frankly. 😆

Go to places you like, do the things you like and things you really want to maybe learn to do (or appreciate) in SL, choosing the more populated of areas for doing these activities of course...and you will likely start to meet people who like some of the things you like so that’s a good way to have a genuine start to a conversation. Also, learning some basic internet etiquette is another good start...like for instance, not necroposting on threads here as a first post?
