Fuzzboi
Hi, I just downloaded SL yesterday. But I can't stay on it for more than a minute or so before it crashes. No error messages, nothing. Just straight crash to desktop. I've uninstalled and reinstalled but it's the same (worse apparently, longest log in since reinstall is about 10 seconds). I'm running win7 with an ATI Radeon HD4600 graphics card (up to date drivers). If anyone has any ideas on the cause I'd appreciate the help. TYVM. Nalates Urriah
When asking a tech related question add the info from the viewer's Help->About... That gives us versions and other info that can narrow our answers to a specific problem. There is a viewer glitch. To see if you have it: open your viewer log right after a crash and look at the end of the log to see what happened. The Crash Log is never much use to me, its for the Lindens. But, the standard log has stuff I can make sense of: SecondLife.log You'll find the log in: XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[Win_login_id]\Application Data\SecondLife\logs Vista/Win7-8: C:\Users\[Win_login_id]\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife\logs There is a problem with how the viewer is handling some images. For whatever reason it is telling the system an image has the dimensions 0x0x1px, which is not going to work. Shortly after trying to deal with such an image my viewer crashes. I have not been able to prove it is or is not cache corruption. My thinking is it is not because I've tried clearing the cache and it seems to make no difference, but it is not very consistent so I can't tell. I think it is something in how the Interest List and the cache are working... or not working. Or... it could be something in the SSA code... But, if you don't look at the 0x0x1px image, you don't crash... Spin 360 in the problem region or turn your draw distance up in a problem region and then you are doing good to last 10 minutes. In other regions I can stay on all day.
Fuzzboi
Thanks for the replies I've found an alternate viewer (catznip) that seems to work. No crashes since I started using it.
