Blaze Nielsen Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Help! Need advice. This is a Mac OSX problem installing collada for use with blender. The instructions say "In the terminal window type "./MacInstallColladaMaya85Release.sh" at the line. The script assumes that the Maya folder is /Applications/Autodesk/Maya8.5 If Maya 8.5 was *not* installed in the default folder, the shell script should be modified to reflect the real folder in which Maya resides." Ok, I'm not using Maya so I have to figure out the instructions above for use with Blender....with no success. Any Mac blender users who can offer a bit of advice? (I know how to open a terminal window) python is installed.
Gaia Clary Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 I am not sure what you mean by "installing collada to use with blender". Collada (export and import) is available in Blender out of the box, although its not fully developed yet, but for Second Life it should be working as needed.
Blaze Nielsen Posted May 12, 2013 Author Posted May 12, 2013 Hi Gala, I guess so much information has been available about the requirement to install collada that I assumed it was needed.
Gaia Clary Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Can you point me to from where this information comes originally ? Maybe we can fix the docs...
Blaze Nielsen Posted May 12, 2013 Author Posted May 12, 2013 I don't have the original urls where the install references were. However, when you download collada, it has instructions for installling on the Mac for programs that use it. Would have helped if they had informed people it wasnt needed.
LepreKhaun Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 http://collada.org/public_forum/showthread.php/787-Install-COLLADA-in-MAYA-8-5-in-MAC-OS-X Though old instructions for Maya, it's understandable the OP thinking that it might pertain to his new installation of Blender, which (thank you Blender devs!) forgoes all that.
Gavin Hird Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 As of Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) Collada is supported right out of the box, where the system included Preview app will render wellformed collada. – SecondLife rigged meshes is more than Preview can chew, though...
Pamela Galli Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 I have a Mac and have never seen any mention of needing to install Collada with Blender.
