how do i change my avatar/ sign in name? must i delete my account?

i really want to change my avatar/sign in name. how do i do it ?

You cannot change your user name...but really, "ladyfox1" is quite nice!  What you CAN do is add a Display Name.  People can see only that, or your user name, or both...that's their choice, set in viewer Preferences.

This doesn't help much, I admit, if you want to be known as "Hulk McDonald" and wear a husky male avatar.

If you really must change your user name, you can keep your current account, and create a second one, which we call an alternate account, or "alt".  Just sign up for SL again like you did initially.  LL treats your accounts as separate "people", even though you are the same person behind all of them...so you can't have the same inventory.  You can transfer $L from one to the other, by paying your alt.  You can send them transferable items from your inventory...but not No Transfer things.
