What to do when TOS doesn't load for you, and you can't log in until you accept.

What to do when TOS doesn't load for you, and you've "tried everything":

TOS was updated on 5/7 so, like all residents, I was asked to accept the new TOS when attempting to log into SL. The TOS window popped up automatically but was empty so I couldn't log in. No matter how long I waited, the actual text in the TOS window never loaded so my only option was to click the CANCEL button. The CONTINUE button was grayed out.

I did a clean re-install of both Second Life VIewer and of Firestorm. TOS still wouldn't load -- in either viewer.

Someone said "even though the text isn't there (in the TOS window), scroll down and the CONTINUE button will no longer be gray so you can click it". But there was NO scrollbar or scroll button.

Someone else said there was a way to do it by clicking a link to acccept TOS from my secondlife.com account in the BUY$ Lindens area. That wouldn't work for me either.

UPDATE:

I ended up downloading MetaBOLT (text-based) and logging in with each of my avatars there first. Once my avatar rezzed there (WITHOUT being asked to accept TOS, by the way), I logged out and then logged in with my regular graphical viewer.... with NO PROBLEMS.

hey there. ive came across something that might help you out.

 

try going to your billing page and you will find something there regarding acepting the new TOS, wich will link to open the game. that might force to show the TOS window once you log in. hope it helps

to complete my previous answer, to your updated question.

i came across a few hours ago with this TOS thing. on the billing page, press the buy or the sell L$, and you should get a notice of new TOS aceptance before you can proceed, wich will ask you to log in your avatar. thats where i found it more preciselly. if that doesn't help, i could only suggest the following:

 

1 - uninstall every viewer

2 - check for folders that got left after the uninstall (tricky, because to see some you must activate to show hidden folders and know where to look)

3 - software that would clean up your registry and defragment it, so all regarding SL is wiped

4 - make a fresh install of SL Viewer (and hope it's fixed!)

Seems you are ok now, but just in case someone else is having this problem, when the ToS screen doesn't load fully after a few minutes, or if the check box won't allow a person to check it, just click the "cancel" button and click to log in again. The ToS screen will pop up again, and this time should load properly.
