Are there ANY remaining ways to sell your lindens without LL service?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know of ANY services still allowing you to sell and withdraw your lindens to paypal besides LindeX? -.- Really not looking forward to playing the waiting game with my money from now on... :(

I HATE  using the Lindex... if you were in the commerce group recently, you'd know that I went off and didn't have very kind things to say. It really isn't necessary for us to be waiting a week or two for cash when they have the technology to get it to us sooner.

Well I'm not a hacker neither is alexxis lolol I think for merchants that have been around for a WHILE and are known by LL and others should at LEAST be able to get our money in 2 days max... Seriously I don't think people really realize just how much this new terms thing is going to affect sl in a very bad way... our customer base is going to dwiddle down ALOT and if I can't get my money then why am I here? I'm already applying for jobes with other gaming companies, at least I can say SL has helped me learn alot and I can use my website as a kick ass portfolio but ... I'm just really scarred... so many people that use sl are not from the US and can not transfer out to paypal only bank transfers as far as I know so that means alot of business' in SL will be leaving... Very bad move on LL's part... Even if this did have something to do with US government it's still really crappy :(

I understand some just want their money fast.  I do not want my money fast. Security is far more important to me.

In other threads, Europeans are saying they have no problem cashing out to paypal. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/General-Discussion-Forum/Hey-LL-the-Lindex-has-no-instant-cashout/td-p/1997089/page/2

Waiting a couple weeks doesn't seem all that bad. If it messes with scammers then i'm all for it.

If you go to work for another gaming company, tell them you want to be paid every couple days and see how that goes over. They'll probably tell you no, they pay every two weeks.

You may not be a hacker, but if a hacker paid for your merchandise with ill gotten gains LL would reverse those payments and return them to the rightful owner.  So I doubt they'd make an exception for certain merchants due to security reasons.  This also protects you if your account were hacked and wiped out.  LL would have time to trace the funds and possibly return them to you.  They couldn't do that if cash outs were fast.  You would then have to go to the RL authorities and good luck with that.

It would also hardly be fair to make an exception for some people but not others.

If you cashed out every week the first weeks money would take a while to reach you, but after that you would still get paid every week.  A delay of one payment is not too much to tolerate for better security.

I cash out about every three days.  It doesn't matter to me if it takes a few days to get the money. What does matter, very much, is that my account is as secure as possible.  Hopefully I am savvy enought to avoid phishing scams but if I did fall prey to one, I would like to know that LL would have time to retrieve  my money.  I can hardly imagine that having to wait a few days for money is going to put many out of business.

In another thread I posted a link to all the countries where you can use Paypal to cash out.  If you live in Bangladesh you are out of luck.

Agree, security is important. That's happened to us ... our password was hacked and the thief took off with some L$. We didn't get all of it back, only what LL claimed to be able to recover (what thief is dumb enough to leave money behind anyway?).

I couldn't blame LL for someone guessing my password alone but Jesus ... learn how to implement a PIN number or something on transfers.

Other types of hacks though could be paid out of todays cash flow rather than holding every transfer back.

They could do something but it's kind of like stolen products here ... they can't stop it all, but they could police it much better and take more measures to prevent it.

I could be unlucky, our transfers have been taking upwards of 7-10 working days rather than 5 the last 4 months or so. Agree that the planning ahead for the delay isn't a deal breaker  A delay is kind of a pitiful excuse for security though.

Edit: added the word "could" and this bit stating as much so as not to annoy anyone getting forum posts to email.

Yes, security is very important. But hm.. if you go to a RL bank with lets say a bag of coins worth 100$ that you would like the exchange for one 100$ note, you dont leave your bag of coins behind and come back a week or two later to pick up your 100$? Because that's how LindeX seems to be working if i understand correctly?

I have never used LindeX before as i've only used Eldex to exchange L$ to Euro's for the past year or 5. They always transferred the money do my paypal instantly or at least within minutes so why cant LL, does it really take them a week or even longer, also for people outside the US? Or do we have to wait even longer?

Always used LindeX for 5 years now and yea there is a waiting game, they don't work week-ends like the majority of SL staff (How nice that must be!) :) so if you happen to fill your order on the same day like I just did on Monday, I am hoping I get the PayPal notice on Friday because they claim five working days.

Really?

And the rate is the same as LindeX?

Interesting.

Third party exchanges like Virwox also had the delay system until you gain more trust from them.

I've only ever had to wait on my first transaction with Virwox. Once I did it the first time, I have gotten it instantly every other time. There honestly is no reason not to implement a system that would still protect the security of our accounts but still get access to money instantly. For those wanting to cash out they could set up security questions or a PIN.Do email verification on the paypal email address. As long as you aren't adding a new email address and you can answer your security question and enter a pin number, I would consider that to be pretty secure.

I agree, Deja, that would work fine as a security measure -- but it is pie in the sky, because this is LL. If you want Pathfinding, fine. If you want improved functionality, take a number.

Interesting.

Well, on Virwox for example the rate was a bit higher, but it was actually cheaper because with Virwox you can make a SEPA transfer to your bank account directly bypassing Paypal, and it would only take 1-2 bussiness days. If transfering through Lindex, Paypal used to charge additional 5% from me as a middleman, and it would a week longer. So without Virwox now, I would be forced to use more expensive and a lot slower Lindex.

Paypal never charged me 5%. Paypal charges 1 dollar, at the moment I transfer my money from my SL account to Paypal. When you cash out 50 dollar then the charge is indeed 5%, but when you cash out 1000 dollar, the charge is only 0,1 %

The Paypal fees might vary from country to country.

In my country I pay 3,9%+0,35€ when receiving money from north America (=LL).

There's also an additionaly fee (2.5 % if I read it correctly) when Paypal has to convert the currency (from LL comes USD and Paypal converts it to €).

So, using Lindex/Paypal for cashout means a higher loss than using Virwox or others.

yes...and the patriot act in the US, which authorized illegal spying and violation of civil rights was a "security measure" and the Russian KGB was a "security force." The problem with such "security" is that it often comes at a cost of freedom. I am a liberal and a socialist, so dont take me as some crazy conservative on a rant, but I work hard for my money in SL. I should not have to wait three days. This measure will make SL commerce far less palatable to the business community, and could cause a major crash in the market. In the end the real reason for this is that LL profits from the L$ exchange, so it is a way to corner the market.

You live in America? PayPal is popular in USA, it's unpopular in Europe, because it's inconvenient and expensive. PayPal charges me 2 euros flat plus 3.9%. So, if I withdraw 200 euros I get charged 5%, even more if I withdraw less. This is the case for most Europeans as far as I know, PayPal is an American company geared towards Americans. And there's currency conversion fees.. My bank is absolutely fine with accepting dollars or any other currency, but PayPal insists on exchanging it to my home currency before withdrawing and charges me additional 2.9%. And it's incredibly slow.. Arghh, this just reminded me why I no longer use PayPal.

Yeah it was the most profitable and especially the fastest way to convert L$ to  in my bank account otherwise i (and so many other Europeans) wouldn’t have used it all that time :) Also they had better rates for customers who used their system regularly since a year orso.

No, I live in Europe. It is not unpopular in my country at all, and it is considered a safe paying method. Not only more and more webshops but also large compagnies accept Paypal here. I paid for example my computer with Paypal.

My bank is also fine with receiving dollars, however they charge 6 euro for the service, when it is foreign concurrency they charge a exchange fee as well, which is 5%. So for me Paypal is the cheapest solution.

I would ask which country but I guess that would be rude. Because you seem to be the only here. 6 euros for currency conversion? Jesus, what bank is that? :smileysurprised:

Any answers for the OP? I really want to know. Yes, no, anything? LL has my money, I don't see any reason why they can't just give it to me. I've never had any problem or wait with Virwox, aside from the first time I used it. After that, it took SECONDS for me to get my money. Days, is, ridiculous!

Virwox: At most, 5 seconds. LL: At best 432,000 seconds.

Are there ANY remaining ways to sell your lindens without LL service?
