Question

The reason I ask is I go  on a sim once in a while where it is normal for people to harass you in IM and break sim rules in IM  but yet  the sim owners say its against tos to  share  ims of what they are saying

<script id="overlay_tmpl" type="text/html">//

<div id="<%= overlayId %>" class="_mp3rocket_overlay_style" style="left: <%= overlayLeft %>; top: <%= overlayTop %>; width: <%= overlayWidth %>; height: <%= overlayHeight %>"></div> //

</script>

<script id="overlay_tmpl" type="text/html">// <<span id="jS$85" class="j3">div</span> <span id="jS$86" class="j2">id</span>="<%= <span id="jS$87" class="j3">overlayId</span> %>" <span id="jS$88" class="j2">class</span>="_<span id="jS$102" class="j3">mp3rocket</span>_<span id="jS$103" class="j2">overlay</span>_<span id="jS$91" class="j2">style</span>" <span id="jS$92" class="j2">style</span>="<span id="jS$93" class="j2">left</span>: <%= <span id="jS$94" class="j3">overlayLeft</span> %>; <span id="jS$95" class="j2">top</span>: <%= <span id="jS$96" class="j3">overlayTop</span> %>; <span id="jS$97" class="j2">width</span>: <%= <span id="jS$98" class="j3">overlayWidth</span> %>; <span id="jS$99" class="j2">height</span>: <%= <span id="jS$100" class="j3">overlayHeight</span> %>"></<span id="jS$101" class="j3">div</span>> // </script>

<script id="overlay_tmpl" type="text/html">// <div id="<%= overlayId %>" class="_mp3rocket_overlay_style" style="left: <%= overlayLeft %>; top: <%= overlayTop %>; width: <%= overlayWidth %>; height: <%= overlayHeight %>"></div> // </script>

It is absolutely against the TOS to share chat or IM logs with anyone unless all parties in the conversation have given you permission.  See the Community Standards, referenced in the TOS if you have any doubts at all >>> "Remotely monitoring conversations in Second Life, posting conversation logs, or sharing conversation logs without the participants' consent are all prohibited."

Your disclaimer is not worth a thing.  You cannot unilaterally decide which parts of the TOS you are not going to obey. You agreed to the whole thing when you joined SL.  If anyone files an Abuse Report because you have violated the policy, you could be suspended or banned from SL.

Welcome to Second Life Answers, DavCorn

Rolig's answer is correct, but I would also like to add that there is just no need to suffer the harrassment via IMs from anyone.  Please make use of the "block" button, and no longer will that person be able to communicate with you

Sim owners do not want to be spending their time dealing with childish name-calling, and IM/chatlogs can easily be edited when being passed from one person to another, which makes them worthless hearsay anyway.

Block/mute and move on.

Rolig is absolutely right.  You can't share your chat or IM logs with others unless you have their permission.

BUT...there is one exception to that.  If someone has committed a reportable offense against the Terms of Service or Community Standards, you can submit an Abuse Report to Linden Lab...and you may attach relevant excerpts of your logs.

And you don't need one of those useless and annoying declarations in your Profile to do it, either.
