Question

Posted

I received an email telling me an object had been auto-returned yesterday. When I logged on it looked like an earthquake had hit the sim! A skybox was on it's roof in the middle of a field, and various items had been returned, or were now floating in space way above the sim. Does this sound like a grief attack or a problem with Linden?

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, they were returned by Governor Linden from abandoned land due to auto-return, so no help there. I have been on SL for about 18 months and never had any problems up until now, everything is either group owned (2 of us in the group, myself and my partner, I have checked this, and there are no spurious members in the group), or owned by me. I'm at a loss as to how it has occurred. We have both changed passwords as a precaution.

Welcome to Second Life Answers, andy

Oh my goodness, it sounds like you have a poltergeist!

Firstly, have a look at the message you received in your email, telling you that your object had been auto-returned.  Did it tell you who had returned the object, and why?

Have you given anybody, a friend, a group, permission to move objects on the sim?

I remember an ex-friend of mine had rezzed several items on their rented parcel of land and when I clicked on them, I could see the option "anyone can edit this object" was ticked, so I moved some of his stuff into different places.  I think it is possible this may have happened to you.  You might call it griefing, I chose to say I was being a little bit mischievous :matte-motes-evil-invert:

Rarely (I emphasise rarely) there have been issues where objects have drifted across sims and this has been a Linden problem.  As no one else has reported a similar issue to yours that I can recall, I would say it is probably someone being a little bit mischievous with you.

Should you wish to give us an update, once you discover what did cause this problem for you, and I hope that you will come back and give us an update, you can do so by clicking on "options" at the top right hand corner of your original post and "edit".
