You cannot change your username:

In Second Life, you have:

• A username, your unique Second Life account name that you choose when you register your account.  Once chosen, you cannot change your username.
• A display name shown to others inworld and on your profile.  You can change your display name as often as once a week.  In addition, you can always reset it to its default, your username.

A small addition to val's perfect answer, please know that you can officially have up to five accounts per household, and so if you have a name you would prefer to be called, you can create a brand new avatar with that name (as long as that name has not already been taken by another resident)

I think Cherigoddess is a rather lovely name though, actually, and do not know why you would want to change it.
