Newbie question about setting up a shop

I just rented a space in a roleplay/mall land and when I put an item down in my store it gets removed a moment later, then sent back to me as lost and found. I can't seem to find a manager or anything to ask about it, or any information anywhere in the area.

Is this normal? How do I get around it?

When you rent a spot, you have to contact the land owner and get added to the group.  Then you can begin to set up your spot.  just paying rent on the space isn't enough, as those markets are set up as group owned and only group members can put out permanent objects.

Alright, thanks. I thought it might be a group, though I can't seem to find any info in Land or anything like that. I've sent a message to the owner and hopefully they'll contact me.

If you can't get in touch with the landowner right away because they are never on line when you are, keep trying.  Send a notecard as well as IM.  When you do talk to them, if several days have elapsed, ask them to adjust your rental period starting from the date you get the group invite since  you couldn't use the shop while waiting on the tag.  Most landlords will do that.

Should send the note as suggested to the owner of the land.  Also, did you try editing the market stall wall itself and seeing who the owner of the object is?  if that name is not the same as the owner, try to contact them as well.  Lastly for RP SIMs, you should be able to find a mod or admin.  They’re usually listed in the rules for that sim.  Try reaching out to them as well.
