Being new to building, I am curious to learn if there is a way to combine prim objects (several) into a single prim. For instance I am building a roof and it has four seperate shapes, joined to group as a single object. This is 4 prims can it become 1 or 2 prims, if so please help. Thanks to all who have the answer.

You can LINK multiple prims into a single object.  However, if the object consists of 4 prims, it will still have a land impact of 4, not 1.

To link prims, select one.  Then select the others with SHIFT+click or SHIFT+drag a selection box around them.  Hit CTRL+L or Build/Link to link them.  NOTE:  The LAST prim you select will become the "root prim" of the linkset.

To reduce your prim count, it is sometimes possible to create a sculpted object, using many prims as a prototype.  This requires the use of a "sculpt generator" tool.  You can find several on the Marketplace.  The way they work is:

1.  Create your prototype object using prims rezzed via the generator tool.

2.  Click the Generate button on the tool.  The prims will be used to create a sculpt map, and you will be directed to a website to download the map.

3.  Use the sculpt map to create a new sculpted object in the shape of your prototype.  Re-size as necessary to get it to match.

4.  Delete the prototype prims.

Note that the sculpty will be subject to the limitations of any sculpted prim, such as having a physical bounding box that is not necessarily the same as the visible object.
