Question

When using the Second Life search in my external browsers (both Firefox and Chrome), everything works fine until I click on the "View full group/person profile in Second Life."

Rather than opening in my already-running viewer, it attempts to launch another copy of SL, giving me an error that says, "Second Life is already running."

I tried changing my settings to allow multiple copies of SL to open. The problem is it still launches a new window, prompts me to log in, and then still doesn't show the page I was trying to access in-world.

This does not happen for locations; they open fine.

I've tested the links on the page http://secondlife.com/app/search/slurls.html and come to the conclusion that any of the ones with three slashes open incorrectly this way. I'm not sure if it's a browser setting or an SL setting, but nothing I've tried so far has fixed it.

My next solution would be to use my internal browser in the first place, but for some reason it also seems broken, so that's not going to work either.

If you want to use Search when you are in your external browser (or your internal one), just set the URL to http//:search.secondlife.com/  .  That works just fine.

With only a couple of exceptions, the redirected URIs like the one you are trying to use are really only meant to work from the chat window in your viewer.  Take a look at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Viewer_URI_Name_Space  if you are really interested.

I used to be able to post second life group links (secondlife:///app/group/*group-id-here*/about) in blogs and such, and when clicked on the web, would open the group panel in the second life client for the specific group i have linked. Now, with the second life client running, I am prompted with a windows dialog box saying "second life is already running". The group link from the web no longer opens the group in the client. If I close the client, and then click the web link to the group, the client starts, I login, and theres no group presented.

This seems to be a problem for the http://my.secondlife.com/*resident-name-here* profile page when going to GROUPS, clicking a group and then clicking the "View group info in Viewer sidebar" link ... it used to work, now it does not.

Map Slurls seem to still work properly.

The Firestorm viewer DOES load the links from the web.

The Second Life viewer DOES NOT load the links from the web.

Has something changed recently?

In order to use links that depend on the viewer URI, you need to be sure that your browser recognizes a Second Life viewer that will actually handle the web address. You seem to have done that for Firestorm, but not for the Linden Lab V3 viewer. In fact, if you are posting links of the type you describe for other people to use, THEY need to have taught THEIR browsers how to handle a secondlife:/// address. If you take a look at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Viewer_URI_Name_Space , you'll find that "Most secondlife:///app URLs only work from browser instances running inside Second Life because of a denial-of-service attack using secondlife:///app/teleport links to force repeated teleports. "
