I was wondering, if you invite another person to your home (maybe tp them) can they return and go inside while you are away, even if you have locked the doors? And if so, is it possible for them to right click and 'Take' items?

Thanks in advance.

Unless you have specifically made your home off limits by setting ban lines, setting up a security orb, or banning individuals, they don't need an invitation to visit.  Once you invite a friend to visit, of course, it's easier for them to come back because they know your address.  Whether it's a friend or a total stranger, though, anyone can walk in unless you have gone to a lot of trouble.  Doors and locks are meaningless in SL (and RL too, but they are at least a deterrent there).  If someone finds your front door locked, then can enter by simply sitting on your sofa.

Should that make you nervous?  Nah.  Nobody can take your stuff.  Theft is virtually impossible in SL.  You can't Take anything unless you own it.  If people want to come and admire your stuff while you aren't there, big deal.  You do want to keep them from adding their stuff, of course, so be sure to open About Land, go to the Options page, and UNcheck the boxes that allow anyone else to rez objects or bring objects into your parcel.  While you're at it, UNcheck the box that says people can see you from outside the parcel. That way, casual explorers can't watch your bedroom activity without being really obvious about it (in which case, you eject them).  Other than that, relax and enjoy SL.

If any of Rolig's excellent advice does not make sense (it's all true, but SL can take some getting used to), give me a call.  I can demonstrate the things she is telling you about.
