If you are getting no error messages at all, then you are not crashing.  You are disconnecting.  That means that the problem is not in your viewer but in your Internet connection.  It's hard to tell what the problem might be, but the two most common ones are

1. Using a wireless connection.  That's very often a bad idea in SL.  Get yourself a LAN cable so that you can connect directly from your computer to your router.

2. Having a router that needs to be rebooted.  Over time, your router can accumulate errors and gradually choke itself.  So, unplug it from the power and go make a sandwich or a cup of coffee.  Come back in a few minutes and plug it back in again.  That should clear its member and let it get a better grasp on the Internet.

Those two steps still might not fix things, but they are a good first start.  If they don't, come back here and tell us. Click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question here and select EDIT. Please do NOT start a new thread.

And please use black type, not pink.  :smileywink:

Incidentally, I should have asked .... How do you know that your graphics card drivers are up to date?  When did you check?  Or are you just assuming that they must be up to date because your computer is only a year old?  (Bad assumption.)

OK, well at least you tried the easy stuff, and it probably will help your performance overall.  You were obviously connected to the Internet.  That was never the issue. The question was whether you had a lousy connection.  You can browse the web, send e-mail, and play many online gameswith a crummy connection, but SL will stall.  My bet is still on that as the problem.  You can limp along with the old-style viewer for another few weeks, but it's not a permanent solution. If it's not mesh-enabled, it's one of those that will be obsolete and essentially non-functional in a few weeks when Linden Lab switches to Server Side Avatar Baking.  It's working for you now because some of those old-style viewers are more tolerant of weak connections.

So, yes, you do need to reinstall a modern viewer anyway.  You might as well do that.  Do it cleanly, though.  Here's how >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-Second-Life/ta-p/1375231

Then, read Nalates's blog at http://blog.nalates.net/2011/10/26/troubleshoot-your-sl-connection/ .  There's a lot in there, but don't get intimidated.  You'll notice that one of the things she recommends is a tracert test of all the connections between your computer and SL's servers. If you do that, you'll be able to see where your connection may have weak spots.  To get a trace in Windows 7, click the Start button and then, in the search box, type command.  Click on Command Prompt and then type in the command tracert sim5466.agni.lindenlab.com . That's the route to the server that my sim is on in Linden Lab.  Here's what my trace looks like (with the first couple of lines blanked out so you can't see where I am) :

Tracing route to sim5466.agni.lindenlab.com [216.82.22.109] over a maximum of 30 hops:

  1     *        *        *     Request timed out.

  2    10 ms    10 ms     6 ms  ----------------------------------------------

  3    19 ms    19 ms    18 ms  ----------------------------------------------

  4    20 ms    18 ms    23 ms  ----------------------------------------------

  5    19 ms    19 ms    19 ms  sl-st20-chi-0-0-0.sprintlink.net [144.232.19.144]

  6    24 ms    21 ms    22 ms  144.232.8.114

  7    41 ms    39 ms    41 ms  vlan52.ebr2.Chicago2.Level3.net [4.69.138.190]

  8    41 ms    39 ms    41 ms  ae-14-14.ebr1.Dallas1.Level3.net [4.69.151.118]

  9    41 ms    41 ms    39 ms  ae-81-81.csw3.Dallas1.Level3.net [4.69.151.149]

 10    51 ms    40 ms    42 ms  ae-31-80.car1.Dallas1.Level3.net [4.69.145.131]

 11    41 ms    41 ms    46 ms  LINDEN-RESE.car1.Dallas1.Level3.net [8.9.232.94]

 12    44 ms    54 ms    53 ms  sw-core1-73.dfw.lindenlab.com [216.82.7.174]

 13    44 ms    42 ms    42 ms  sim5466.agni.lindenlab.com [216.82.22.109]

You see that the first few hops, closest to my own computer, were very fast (under 20 milliseconds).  Jumps farther away were slower, but still mostly under 50 milliseconds.  The slowest was right at Linden Lab's front door, and that was still only 54 milliseconds.  In other words, signals are travelling between me and SL very quickly, with no really slow spots.  If you do the same thing, you may be able to see where the slowest parts of your route to SL are.  Read Nalates's blog to see how to use that information.

I think the viewer telling you your card is not up to date is a bug. I get the same with Niran's viewer if I crash with it. With a clean install, that message disappears but if the viewer crashes again, back somes the message until the next clean install. Just ignore the message.

Updates often cause issues. I suggest you do a clean install as shown below:

Uninstall normally then manually remove the hidden Second Life folders in AppData.

Enable Hidden Files & Folders:

1) Open Control Panel
2) Open “Folder Options”
3) Open the “View” tab
4) Check “Show hidden files, folders, and drives”

Press OK and close control panel.

Accessing AppData:

Browse to the path below that corresponds to your operating system:

Windows XP - C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\

Windows Vista - C:\Users\<username>\AppData\

Windows Vista Home Premium - C:\Users\<username>\AppData\

Windows 7 - C:\Users\<username>\AppData\

Inside the AppData folder:

1) Open the Local folder and delete the entire Second Life folder.

2) Go back one level to the AppData folder.

3) Open the Roaming folder and delete the entire Second Life folder. If you wish to save existing chat files you've had with other avatars, move the Roaming > [avatar name] folder elsewhere on your computer and drag any chat text files you wish to retain into the new Roaming > [avatar name] folder once Second Life is reinstalled and you've logged in at least once. Ignore if you don't want to save any.

4) Restart your computer.

Now download a fresh copy of Second Life and install it.

Disable automatic updates in Preferences and set to manual updates. Next time you need to install a new version of the viewer, uninstall and install manually.
