When I log into Sl I crash on my laptop but on my husbands laptop I log in perfect, can someone help

The easy guess is that one or both of you are using wireless connections, and that one of you has a slightly more capable card or is sitting in a slightly better spot relative to the router.  Wireless is always vulnerable to interference from all manner of sources (cell phones, garage door openers, power lines, fluorescent light fixtures, ... ) and will generally lose a lot of bandwidth as well.  SL is not designed to operate with wireless, and we do not recommend it.  Use a direct LAN cable connection instead. 

Beyond that, at least some laptops that people try to use for SL are simply not up to the task. Without knowing anything at all about either of your machines it's impossible to say anything more specific, but a machine that is meant for web browsing and light office use is likely to have more problems with SL than a laptop that is designed for gaming.
