Question

Posted

Hi I joined SL a coulpe of weeks ago and on the market I've found a beautiful free ship, which I bought. The questions are :
1) Is there a way to make the ship become your own home?
2) In lots of places where you CAN rez boats it appears me the message : can't rez object at  [ here there are usually some numbers ] because the owner of this land does not allow it. Then why can other people rez their boats here and I can't?

I really need some answers cause I have no experience on this game and in particular on boats ecc.

Thank you a lot!

In general, when you see that other people can rez things but you can't, that almost certainly means that the land owner has set the land to allow only group members to rez things (it's unfortunately often necessary, otherwise greifers tend to rez objects that disrupt the sim).

You can check and see if the group that owns the land, or which the group is set, is open membership.   If it is, you should be able to join and rez things.    Worth a try.

Public rez zones like Valerie showed you are great, when you want to go sailing

When you want to LIVE on your yacht, it's another matter.  You can't just leave it floating in the Blake Sea or other waterway.  After you have been off the boat for a while, it will be auto-returned to your inventory.  To live aboard a yacht, you need to own some land to keep it on.

Not dry land, of course!  What you want is "water land"...a parcel of land that is under water.  Some marinas will rent you slip space where you can keep your yacht, or you can buy your own land parcel.

Many larger boats in SL aren't even driveable...they are more like boat-shaped homes.
