How do you get rid of a message icon on my.secondlife.com when you actually do not have a message?

Be sure to look on all the tabs 1st. Messages & Notifications.

A Message or Notification can be hidden from view under the other tab. Select each tab in turn, view each of the messages and the inbox reminder will reset.

I hear it can be buggy. Not much you can do about it. It may correct itself.
