Login at my.secondlife.com and go to this page:

You can do the same inside the viewer when you go to Me->Profile->Edit profile.

Often switching to another browser fixes that issue. Try using Chrome or Firefox as your default one. As Trinity and Martin said, you can modifify your profile from outside SL. But you can also set your browsing preferences in SL, choosing "use my default browser" instead of the buil-in one. Make sure plugins, cookies and javascript are enabled.
