What can I do to activate my account when it failed to send the activation email?

I tried to make an alt account today and it said it sent an activation email, but I never got one and there was none in my spam folder either. I understand they stopped using this activation method, but yet it tried to anyway. I can't log in on it, it doesn't show up in people search, yet trying to make it again it tells me the name is taken already. What can I do?

The confirmation mail doesn't include a confirmation link anymore, so it actually should work. I would try the password reset method as already suggested.
