I suppose you're right.  It's really how it seems to be sometimes, but that might be because the kids that have the most trouble with relationships and meeting their soulmates also make the most fuss.  But it does seem much more common nowadays.

Also, 9/10 on the telephone remark.  :smileytongue:

I'm NOT looking for a relationship in sl. I am looking for another sugar daddy/money pig. And this thread produced me 2 new "prospects."

Hating on me WON'T BLESS YOU. Just remember that.

That comment wasn't directed at you, just so you know.  I was just pondering.  Honest.

And I don't hate on anyone, but I *am* blessed.  I was just in the usual goofy mood last night and decided to post into your thread, so I'll apologize for that.

I got no problem with you. Why waste your time contemplating why the "youth of today" are not as good at relationships as your generation was? A bit hypocrtical no? When you were young you were probably rolling your eyes at old people giving you advice bout "their generation" and using carrier pigeons to communicate or some **bleep**. You were probably saying carrier pigeons, haha, we have telephones NOW!!

Enjoy the sunset of your life in bliss, instead of worrying bout things u can't control.

I'm wondering if the iPhone generation will ever be able to truly get a feel of another person's character through text and textspeak.  Is it reasonable to suggest (*grumble*) that we of the older generation are more capable of "reading" someone because we grew up in a time of no internet and where people actually met face to face, learned to read body language, etc.?

Maddy was mentioning that last night, that sounding educated and "experimented" on a forum is incredibly easy but to do so in realtime, in person, shows you the real truth.  I love foreign guys because after the first couple of coherent sentences it all falls apart... and that's in no way disrespect to them, it's just amusing.

Love this post....especially the last sentence.

I'm not the one trying to re-live my "youth" in a freaking game. Seriously keep that in perspective.

Yet, here you are...

Yes I am, but news flash, SL is a job for me, I don't explore. Off my sugar daddies/money pigs and cam/voice escorting I pulled in almost $4,300 since 1/17/13 (NOT Lindens).

I wonder, did you declare that as income on your taxes? Btw.. over a million in lindens in a month??!?! i doubt it.

You might want to consult an accountant and/or an attorney.

I asked and SL doesn't provide any forms, only when it gets to paypal. And until it gets to $10,000 it can be claimed as a "gift" cuz that's wut it is technically.

Well, you've already bragged that you've made $4,300 since 1/17/13. If you do that well for the next eleven months, you're on track to make about $51K.

Good luck convincing the IRS that that's all "gifts".

If I keep on this track for that long, I won't mind giving the IRS taxes.

Sure does, especially with responses like "headbutt a knife" and "go gurggle on some razor blades".

I spoke with Janelle, that was all in fun.

Well if you're an escort you get paid about 2000-10000L a day. And depending on what service you use to take out lindens. You can make about a couple thousand a month.

I get 25k-40K/day only from my money pigs. And from escorting some days on the cam escorting I can make a 50k-100k more. It varies on days. Some days no cam clients, some days more than one. So roughly a few hundred dollars a day.

I guess im on pace for 50k a yr, but I want to make more.

John and Abigail Adams carried on a magnificent love affair over five decades using snail mail. And it was truly snail mail, with an ocean crossing delivery taking months. So, I don't think the method of communication necessarily precludes anything. We grow up with our methods and think them best.

Having gone online when I was seventeen, I've spent most of my life communicating the way kids do now, via text and generally anonymously. I believe I'm reasonably adept at reading people that way... given enough time. I'm certain I make mistakes, but I do so in RL as well.

While it's easier to appear intelligent in non-real-time, I suppose it still requires some intelligence to maintain the bluff over the long haul. I hope I'm doing okay.

I haven't been hit on in ages, but I've had a few awkward encounters turn into charming conversations. I often felt a little sadness when I turned down an advance. There's a lot of loneliness here and I understand and sometimes share the desire to do something about it. They say hope springs eternal. I hope that's true ;-)

Have you ever looked at a word in print and after a while it just looks
wrong?

This is one of those times.

Yep, the mechanism I think is at work here is called Semantic Satiation. Here's another discussion you may find relevant.

I don't know how much difference it makes whether you say the word internally as you read it, or not. But the general idea is that when you elevate a normally subconscious thing to conscious consideration, it stops making sense. That's because all the context washes away and you are left with... nothing.

I've long been aware that my subconscious is doing stuff I can't quite get a grip on. Sometimes errors there bubble to the consciousness, as in the case of jarring optical illusions. I recently read "Incognito: The Secret Lives of the Brain" by David Eagleman. It confirmed my suspicions that I'm thinking behind my back.

Now, this is an excellent example of how I can appear smarter than I am. Did I really know all this stuff, or did I just discover it by Googling? There is no way for you to tell at this instant unless I divulge.

I did not know that "Semantic Satiation" was the term applied to the mechanism that de-means a repeated word. I discovered that and the other discussion by Googling. I am, however, well aware that this thing happens and had an inkling of what's going on when it does. Had we been discussing this in-world, I'd have said something like "Yeah, that happens to me too, usually when I say a word over and over again. It's weird and I think that's because we don't normally do stuff like that and when we do, our conscious grabs it and tries to figure out what the hell the subconscious was doing." You'd then tell me that you caught my subconscious doing something naughty and were going to tell Snugs. Then I'd have glared at you, or set you on fire.

You might want to stay away from me until I cool down.

(insert buzzer sound here)

Wrong.. the gift has to be a one time single payment from a single person. The istant you get "gifts" from more than one person, it has to be claimed on your taxes.
