Researching Pokemon style battle gaming

Im researching into posibilities of battle mechanics for a game. Pokemon battles probably being the easiest comparason. I've seen some card game style battle games on marketplace. Perhaps simply starting with randomising a winner based on stats or something.

I am wondering if any scripters here would know of anywhere i could gather more info, or suggestions of what areas in scripting i should take a look at.

Enthusiasts have decompiled the code and figured out how many of the battle algorithms work for Final Fantasy VI. It's a very interesting read and would likely be a good source of inspiration for developing your own battle system. I've always told myself that if/when I do a similar project, I would use that a a guide.
