Second life does not cause the Internet to cut off.  What SL does is put a lot of strain on your system......that includes your network.  There just isn't that many programs that have the amount of data passed back and forth from between your computer and the SL servers.  The router and modem are the two devices in a network that do all that transferring back and forth.  It's not uncommon for one or both of those devices to slow down and even stop transfering the data.  Rebooting those devices usually fixes the problem.  So doing that simple task is your best bet to resolve your disconnecting from the servers.  Give it a shot.

Of course there are other things that can cause the problem.  Such as a router and/or modem dying on you (those will have to be replaced).  Your network adapter can also the culprit..........a driver update might solve that for you (and that device can also be failing....but that's probably not the case since NIC's are pretty tough pieces of hardware).  Firewalls and anti-virus programs can cause disconnects.......go through the setups for those programs to make sure SL is not blocked.  And your computer, itself, could be the issue........again, you'll have to go through your setup to make sure SL is not being blocked or interfered with.

And just a note.  Wireless connections ot the Internet and SL don't mix well....try a wired connection (an Ethernet cable) instead.  I know people can run SL using wireless but wireless is subject to so many potential interference problems sooner or later something is going to interfer and even though it worked yesterday, it might not work today.

Read though Troubleshoot Your #SL Connection. You should find several things that may be contributing to your problem. It should help you figure out where the problem is.

We are assuming you are on a typical home connection. If that is not the case, we need to know.

It would also help to know which router and ISP you are using.

When you ask a tech question include information about your computer and viewer. If the viewer will at least show the login screen, get the info from the viewer's Help-About... and paste that into your post with your question. Help->About... provides all the version numbers we need.  To add your info to an existing question use OPTIONS->EDIT. It’s in the upper right of your post.

While you did a good job of providing your computer specs, you did not include the driver versions and that makes a huge difference.
