Happy Old New Year.  We have two new projects for RC this week.

Second Life Server (main channel)

Since there was a problem with last week's RC project, there is no update for the main channel this week.

Second Life RC BlueSteel and Second Life RC LeTigre:

BlueSteel and LeTigre are getting the interest list improvement project which was originally scheduled for Magnum last week, but was held up due to a last minute bug found in beta.  This update should reduce the bandwidth usage of viewers due to object updates, and should improve simulator performance, especially in sims with many connected avatars.

Scheduled Wednesday 2013-01-16 07:00-11:00 PST Thursday 2013-01-17 07:00-11:00 PST

https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_RC_BlueSteel/13#13.01.14.269041

https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_RC_LeTigre/13#13.01.14.269041

UPDATE @ 2013-01-18 9:47AM PST:

Due to stability issues on LeTigre and BlueSteel, a rollback is scheduled for 10AM this morning.  Both channels will be rolled back to 12.12.18.268345 (the same version as the 'Second Life Server' channel)

Second Life RC Magnum:

Magnum is getting a new server maintenance project, which mostly contains bug fixes.

https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_RC_Magnum/13#13.01.11.268951

Scheduled Wednesday 2013-01-16 07:00-11:00 PST Thursday 2013-01-17 07:00-11:00 PST

We will be monitoring this thread as the code gets released, so feel free to note any observations you have about the server updates.  If you have a specific bug you'd like to report, please file a Jira

I can see the Interest List work helping a little with sim crossings from the bandwidth reduction that might happen, but I'm not sure it will be a big change for a moving point of view. But once it goes grid-wide, I'd expect it to ease the load on the servers storing and sending the data, and that would help.

The Viewer I use does some automatic Draw Distance stepping on teleport, which is a crude way of getting the same sort of effect. I suppose I should turn it off, if I really want to see what the Interest List work does.

I wish these random region crashes could be ironed out. I have stats open almost all the time and don't see any indication of why they occur. Just ding and its over. Region comes up within 1 - 2 minutes, but of course has who knows how much server time loss. Had one earlier that lost almost two hours. Had a region just crash and restart while only being up after a few hours after today's roll. Theres several MAINT work orders open on these, but many have no solid leads on the causes. Truly frustrating.

Yes, same issue on LeTigre, I suspect some late change has been made but it has not been brought to the Server Manager's attention.  Par for this particular course unfortunately.

Maestro will update us soon I hope if anything significant has changed (Hint!):smileytongue:

Seems we are a little behind on the release notes....  My current Blue Steel server is 13.01.14.269041 which I don't see anywhere ??

Sorry - my mistake.  The release notes for BlueSteel and LeTigre were for a slightly older version number (the newer version includes a last-minute bug fix).  The correct version for those channels is 13.01.14.269041.  I've updated the notes just now.

Maestro

After an evening of casual observation, I just want to run a few of things past you on this forum.

Firstly some scripted operations that involve TPing avatars around a sim seem to be behaving erratically, in one case we had an avatar in two locations at once on a sim - something that I would have thought impossible!

Secondly some Flexi items, a flag and some flexi tent flaps appeared to be in the grip of a constant howling virtual gale! Now I always have assumed that Flexi rendering was a client side operation, so what is happening is beyond me...the only change has been the server Roll.

Thirdly about three times (around mid evening UK time so about 1-3pm SLT) we got sudden waves of enormous...c 1000kbps bandwidth usage for about 5 seconds.  No lag or other issues, so what they were goodness knows.

Just observations these, I have no repros.  All on LeTigre sim 8910, Woods of Heaven.

Hi Ayesha, the wind thing is something that could be affected by the changes in BlueSteel and LeTigre.  I'm running a test now with samples the wind speed with llWind() to see if the wind became stronger, overall.  The double-avatar and bandwidth spikes are definitely issues that we're interested in too, if you do manage to find a case to reproduce it.

Maestro

No repro on the double-avatar thing, but is an SL wind velocity of 12m/s normal?  I would not have thought so.

The distorted flexi tent is still distorted by the wind:

The item is "egyptian tent with shadow and light", creator Yan Hoxley, owner Rachael Ezvalt, Key appears to be this string:

a3656121-d9fd-1b6c-0b5f-f234e20bfac2,fdf5b31e-6aef-4e6b-0eca-10197d93af3f,629f836a-e7d5-9c3d-e50c-a65bf8093003,84facbe6-dbbc-1db5-e055-bc97fabcb2ca,638b6466-a4b5-09b5-27c4-80da89e029b0,224f0eb1-3d36-542d-fbeb-a36dd3d31338,dbc6ce41-af00-8110-32c3-9815ccc14efd,c110b160-22c3-fd61-47b1-1cf617ace5b9,bc9ef063-c855-8efa-db90-186fafcdd229,068120fe-df0d-6b70-0a3b-ade8b87f1e10,b689808c-e713-c178-5d1f-9d7b41ce1308,41014add-a0f6-534a-8df8-bb03e61a4ec1,43454482-70a5-6f22-54ec-0a7d888c001d. (!)

Sim 8910 LeTigre RC Woods of Heaven

ETA at 16:00hr GMT:

First point - the SL wind velocity seems to have calmed. But:

The Bandwidth issue on LeTigre sims is serious, Maestro.  I am seeing BW of about 750kbps until a scene is rezzed and it is much slower than usual.  Specifically complex sculpts are very slow to rez, and all the time they are rezzing bandwidth stays in the 500-800kbps area.  This was not the case on the previous server version.

This is not happening on Main Server sims, and so far I have not been able to ascertain whether sleeping sims are worse affected than occupied fully"up" sims.

I have also had a sudden disconnect, probably a viewer crash on a LeTigre sim today, and prior to this incident my viewer had never crashed!  (Seriously, since install, never).

Hope this helps.

Magnum regions are not showing up in search; at least not in the Viewer 3 web search. My home sim doesn't appear, nor does the club where I work at although the events there still appear. The Magnum sandboxes don't appear either, though the LeTigre sandbox regions do. There are reports elsewhere in the forum about more Magnum regions affected.

Thanks for the details, Ayesha.  We will take a look at that tent (maybe a pair of tents side-by-side in different regions) and watch its reaction to the wind.

Theresa, I also see the search issue for Magnum regions (in the main search floater - world map search works fine).  If I search for a Magnum region like 'Calleta', there's no direct search result for the region (the results are for nearby shops, groups, and so on).  I've filed a bug report about this issue.

Maestro,

The update/bug fixes to Magnum seem to have removed many of them from In-World Search. I haven't investigated extremely deep, but every Magnum region I've checked has vanished from Search Results. This happened after the rollout. Could you please take a look from your end and see if something got missed somewhere? Thank you.

ETA: Thank you for the JIRA Bug response Maestro. Keep me posted on the progress please.

I see also another issue on some Magnum regions. If I create a new landmark, the item in my inventory is named as "(unknown) (112, 121, 22)".
It doesn't happen on every Magnum sim but in some. For example here in the Blake Sea:

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Blake%20Sea%20-%20Arabian/112/121/22

This is probably related to the problem with the search.

I saw some script problems in a Magnum sim Friday afternon, SLT. Scripted vehicles passing through a Magnum region would lose all control, moving at a constant speed in a straight line, though experiencing collisions with the ground, so that they didn't drop below ground level. There was no apparent queuing of commands to be executed in the next region. HUD instruments didn't respond to changes in altitude, either absolute or Above Ground Level, and particle clouds generated close to the ground did not appear.

I experienced this in Hanguel, one of four regions compriising the InfoHub on the Southern Continent (If I have the name wrong, it was definitely one of those four regions).

The problems were different if I rezzed the helicopter in a neighbouring region that was also on the Magnum RC. Some scripted elements of the helicopter still did not function.

As a test, I opened the "About Land" floater for one of the Parcels and turned off the "Show In Search" option. I then teleported to a different Parcel, counted to 10, and teleported back into that Parcel. The last step was that I opened About Land again, turned "Show In Search" back on .. then teleported out.

Search Bot V2 watches the Search Rank for me, so it will let me know if the Parcel returns to Search. I will then add another comment here if it does.

Considering that I derive virtually 100% of my in-world sales from In-World Search, having this happen over the weekend is a pinch unpleasant.

I'm curioius what all they keys are supposed to be? Certainly not an asset key, that would be 1 key, not a list of ~ 15 keys.

I agree wholeheartedly and I could not believe the string that appeared when I copied over the Key, hence the (!).  However if I copy that item's Key, that is what I get.  I looked high and low for another UUID, but I never found one.:smileyfrustrated:

ETA: It seems that the Key given by the tent is the key of every individual prim in the item, God knows why.
