Some sim's only allow avatars on them that are above a certain age, or have payment info on file.

Rule of thumb in SL is that any sim owner can ban you for any reason or no reason at all. Which is more than fair since they're the ones paying $295 a month for their sim.

With tens of thousands of regions in SL you shouldn't have a hard time at all finding interesting places :)

It may be guilt by association.  As iCade says, some sims routinely ban anyone who has been in SL fewer han 30 days, on the theory that they are more likely to be griefers with temporary avatars.  Club owners and people who own other performance venues, in particular, do everything they can to discourage rowdy visitors.  Wait a month and try again, possibly contacting the sim owner ahead of time ..... Or find somwhere else to enjoy SL.
