Mesh Shape..

Recommended Posts

https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/50-SALE-Shape-02-PERFECT-FOR-WEARING-WITH-MESH/3658050

hi, I've been on marketplace fooling around all day and I want my avatar to look really realistic.. and well, this is one that I could find that I like. Just one quick question, it only has the shape with it... but it also has a skin that goes with it.. I was just wondering if the shape and skin comes with it or if I just use a cheap skin I have already in my inventory to pop out the shape and it will still look as good? I've really new to mesh.. but if someone could help me it would help me lots.

xxx Thank you, - Cindy

That isn't a mesh shape - it only says it's "perfect to wear with mesh." If it WAS a mesh shape it wouldn't be modifiable. It also doesn't come with the skin - at most it will tell you where to get the skin the maker used. It will look completely different with a different skin and :L$1500 is an extremely high price for a non-mesh shape. You'd be far better off getting a high quality skin, which you can get for 2/3 that amount, and modify an inexpensive or free shape so it looks good with the skin. There's no technical difference between any non-mesh shapes - you are only paying for the ability of the maker to manipulate the sliders that everyone has access to for free.

I agree that this is a high price for a shape. You are much better off spending that money on a high quality skin, many of which come with a shape. Throwing a cheap skin on this shape will NOT acheive the result you are looking for.

Also If realism is important this shape is not realistically proportioned from what I see in the pictures.

You can get  the standard sizing kit here which has the standard sized shapes for wearing mesh clothes for free.

Thank you guys, VERY much. I appreciate. So I am very glad I did NOT buy the shape. I just want a shape to look professionally, but I'm not really professonial on this shopping thing...

If I just get a professional skin, I can make my own shape?

Of course you can. If you mean anatomically correct by "look profissionally", also check Penny Patton's shapes (https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/4531) as well as the shapes Amethyst  suggested, All of them are modifiable, so you can use them as a base of your shape if you want some personal touch. You have only to tweak the sliders.

Not only is that shape expensive at 1500L it's marked as a 50% sale so presumably was 3000L before!

There are a number of threads on where to find good skins such as:

http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Fashion/Skins-that-have-recently-caught-your-eye/m-p/1118077/highlight/true#M3466

Note that most stores that sell skins and shapes in one or matching packages rarely look like the advertising posters. Most free shapes with skin packages are horrendous with the exception of a few stores, one being eStyle where you get what you see. Always get demos before buying.

I cannot agree more about trying demos. Especially when so much styling is used to sell something so simple and easy-to-make-yourself as a shape. It's very easy to look at photos and think "wow I want to look like that" when really what's impressing you are all the things not included for the $1500, which is a lot of money for what you would be actually getting.

Go and grab a heap of skin demos, and have some fun playing with shape using your appearance mode sliders. And Penny's guide is great for helping you get the basic realistic proportions down first, if realism is what you would like. You can just keep saving versions and reworking them, so don't be scared to have a go :)

Edited to add that every shape can be worn with mesh.

I've written a short guide on shape proportions here : http://slfashiontutorials.com/tutorial-feminine-body-proportions-for-different-kinds-of-avatar-shapes/ that might be helpful when creating your own! Even if you buy a shape, make sure it's copy/mod permissions so you can tweak it to make it your own for different mesh clothes and skins.
