Go to a quiet place (I usually fly up in the sky when I have that issue) and try rebake (press Ctrl+Alt+R). That happens ,for example, when you have a weak internet connection.

As Ryota says, find a quiet, low lag place.  Empty regions such as Heckendorf, Smth, or Pooley are good choices.  Since the problem is how others see you, take along a friend.

If rebaking (CTRL+ALT+R) does not work, try changing your bald hair base, and your skin.  If that doesn't work, take off everything you can, and put on different things.

You can do this all at once by changing to a default avatar.  Open the Advanced menu (CTRL+ALT+D) and the Develop menu (CTRL+ALT+Q).  Depending on the viewer you are using, you will find in one of those a menu item called Avatar/Avatar Tests/Test Female (or Test Male).  Click that and you will become a basic noob avatar.

Once you are correctly visible to everyone, change back to your normal appearance.  I recommend putting on one item at a time, and take note if something in particular causes a problem.

You can also try resetting your internet connection, which often helps.  Log off, and turn off your computer and your router and internet modem.  Wait a minute.  Then turn everything back on, reboot, and log into SL again.

If you are using wireless internet...don't.  Use cable, or DSL or FIOS if at all possible.  If you are using WiFi...don't.  Use a cable to connect your computer to your router and modem.
